For budding designers looking to get some solid recognition, the industry road is hard and competitive. That’s why when a design contest comes up that is as meaningful as it is good for a resume, designers pounce. Enter the Indigo handloom contest.
Founder Smita Paul of San Francisco based Indigo Handloom wants you to submit an original design for a hand woven scarf and the winning design will be hand-woven by a one of her master weavers.
While Indigo Handloom offers woven fabrics as well as finished scarves, Smita says focusing on such a quintessential wardrobe staple seemed best for this contest. “I started with scarves because they were the easiest way to experiment with design in the weave. Plus I love scarves. They can transport any outfit,” she says.
The lucky winner’s design will be featured through Indigo Handloom’s online store as part of the Spring 2013 collection and be featured at the New York International Gift Fair in January 2013. The winning designer will also win three copies of the scarf, 15% of all sales on Indigo Handloom and be given credit for the design on the website and all press releases.
Some current, notable Indigo Handloom designers include Eileen Fisher, Gretchen Jones, Study NY and David Peck’s CrOp. A great bunch to run in the same circles with…
To enter, submit a sketch in pdf format of your design and make sure to include the following information:
1. Size: 15″-40″ wide and 60″-80″ in length.
2. Colors: Submit a maximum of 10 Pantone colors for your design
3. Fabric Content: May be 100% cotton, 100% silk, or 50% cotton/50% silk
Design submissions should be submitted to info@indigohandloom.com. Submissions can be sent as an image with instructions on colors/weaving or dyeing techniques. Deadline is December 20, 2012. The winner will be announced on the Indigo Handloom website and social media outlets.
Good luck!
