Humans are visual beings, we have to see something with our own eyes to really believe it. Perhaps this is why many environmental organizations are holding photo contests, calling for photographers all over the world to submit their best captures of amazing wildlife. Here at Goodlifer we firmly believe in the power of optimism and, to us, the finalists of two recent wildlife photography contest are not only beautiful pictures—they are also powerful agents of positive change.
Defenders of Wildlife has announced the finalists of their second annual photo contest. The submissions are all amazing and give ample reasons to why we all need to work hard every day to protect: a moonrise over Rocky Mountain National Park, an ant perched on top of a leaf, a fox taking a morning stretch, the Alaskan tundra, a bay in Iceland, a smoky sunset in Grand Teton National Park, sun streaming through trees at Redwoods National Park, a yawning leopard seal in Antarctica, a common merganser in California and bear quadruplets in Katmai National Park.Vote for your favorite here. The photographers are competing for prizes worth a total of $5,000, including a grand-prize photo tour to Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks with expert wildlife photographer Jess Lee.
Ocean Conservancy also wants you to help choose the photo that will grace the cover of their 2012 Ocean Wildlife Calendar. There are four finalists (below and top), each of them “not only a snapshot of the beauty and complexity of the ocean, but also a powerful reminder that we must work hard, together, to protect the ocean—now, more than ever.”
A picture is worth a thousand words.
