Looking for something to do this weekend? Why not hit the 127 Yard Sale, commonly referred to as “The World’s Longest Yard Sale.” Running from Gadsden, AL in the south to Addison, MI in the north, the yard sale is 690 miles long and follows Highway 127 through six states: Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan. It starts today and runs through Sunday, August 10.
With 5,000 vendors expected to set up booths, there’s plenty of treasure hunting to be done. Expect a bit of traffic, though, as more than 100,000 shoppers are anticipated along the route.
Since it was started in in Tennessee in 1987, the 127 Yard Sale has grown every year. Although it is not quite a continuous stream of booths, as some stretches of road are less accommodating, organizers ensure that you will never have to drive far before the sale picks up again.
If you go, remember to wear sunscreen, bring an umbrella (weather reports say it can rain in some states) and plenty of cash. Happy Thrifting!
