October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, did you know? It’s hard not to with all the pink ribbons and pink stuff in the stores. Commercialization and pinkwashing aside, breast cancer is an issue that actually deserves its own awareness month. But it’s not about highlighting a specific color, it’s about spreading information that can help prevent future cases of this common form of cancer. Because we all love boobs, right?
The Keep A Breast Foundation is a youth-focused non-profit organization with a mission to help eradicate breast cancer by exposing young people to methods of prevention, early detection and support. They publish educational tools, such as a handy prevention pocket guide that covers important topics like current cancer issues, tips on how to live a healthy lifestyle and avoiding cancer-causing toxins in our everyday environment.
Whether you’re an individual or a company you can help Keep A Breast spread this information to empower and engage women everywhere. Surf-inspired women’s swimwear brand Calavera is a good example. The company partnered with KAB to host an evening of surfing lessons and beach yoga for young breast cancer survivors, and are also helping spread the message to customers via their social media channels. “Through our partnership with Keep A Breast, we hope to inform and empower the Calavera community,” Calavera founder Anna Jerstrom says, “arming women with the best tools to fight against this disease.”
Because, just like boobs, prevention is sexy. Knowledge is power.
